Primary purpose: As a teaching assistant you would support teachers with their work in the classroom, so that they can concentrate on teaching.

Duties
General Duties and Responsibilities
getting the classroom ready for lessons
helping children/ young adults who need extra support to complete tasks
helping teachers to plan learning activities and complete records
supervising group activities#
Assisting children/young adults who are upset or have had accidents
helping with outings and sports events
Carrying out routine administrative tasks.
You would also support children with particular individual needs, working one-to-one or in small groups. With experience, you could lead some classes.
Skills and Knowledge
experience of working with children and young adults the ability to build good relationships with children, young adults, teachers, parents and carers.
flexibility and creativity
the ability to work as part of a team
good reading, writing and numeracy skills
patience
The ability to manage groups of children and young adults cope with challenging behavior. In some jobs it could be useful if you have IT skills.
